President Obama to Host Space Conference Next Month in Florida
In April we will find out the future of the US space program as President Barack Obama will host a space conference.
It is expected that Obama will affirm his position when it comes to dropping the NASA Constellation project in favor of continued research to benefit long term space interests.
As for the current fleet of space ships, they will be retired by the end of the year and US astronauts will be relying on other countries to get them into orbit.
Proposed in the Obama budget is up to 6 billion dollars earmarked to allow for commercial companies to produce crafts capable of bringing civilians to space and to further work on the International Space Station.
“After years of underinvestment in new technology and unrealistic budgeting, the President’s plan will unveil an ambitious plan for NASA that sets the agency on a reinvigorated path of space exploration,” the White House said in a statement.
“The conference will focus on the goals and strategies in this new vision, the next steps, and the new technologies, new jobs, and new industries it will create,” it said. “Conference topics will include the implications of the new strategy for Florida, the nation, and our ultimate activities in space.”
