Warner Music plans to sell their music product via Amazon. Com’s start up digital music service. The plan by Warner Music to not require copy protection seems at odds with their corporate zest for protecting their interests. Read more

Shuttle Tank Repair To Delay Lab Launch

The discovery of a faulty electrical connection in the fuel tank of the U.S. Space shuttle Atlantis is pushing back the launch date of several projects. Included in the list is the premier of the first permanent space laboratory for Europe.

Washington (dbtechno) - The discovery of a faulty electrical connection in the fuel tank of the U.S. Space shuttle Atlantis is pushing back the launch date of several projects. Included in the list is the premier of the first permanent space laboratory for Europe.

There have been two separate attempts in December to move ahead with the launch of shuttle Atlantis, which would carry the new European lab to its new home in the International Space Station. Read more

NJ Legislation Bars Sex Offenders Surfing

The state of New Jersey has become one of the first states to pass legislation that will prohibit some convicted sex offenders from using the Internet.

New Jersey (dbtechno) - The state of New Jersey has become one of the first states to pass legislation that will prohibit some convicted sex offenders from using the Internet.

Acting Governor Richard J. Codey signed the legislation into effect on Thursday December 27th, and in so doing made New Jersey into one of the most restrictive states in the area of access to the Internet for felons that have been convicted of molesting or abusing others sexually.

The only other states with regulations such as New Jersey are Nevada and Florida. Read more

AppleTo Redefine Online Rentals

Apple Inc. spent much of the last ten years totally redefining how the distribution of music online developed.  Now, they are poised to possibly do much the same thing to online movie rentals.

Boston (dbtechno) - Apple Inc. spent much of the last ten years totally redefining how the distribution of music online developed. Now, they are poised to possibly do much the same thing to online movie rentals.

Apple and 20th Century Fox Studios plan to bring movies to the popular iTunes format. Using its family of phones and media players, Apple seems uniquely poised to make such a huge step come to pass.

The deal with Fox has not been made totally public as yet, but it appears that some sort of deal is in the offing for movies that are in the Fox Studios control will be made available over the network system of iPods and the iPod family of phones for a limited period of time time. The movies that are released by Fox Studios on DVD would be released to Apple for distribution. Read more

Boston (dbtechno) - The announcement by Google earlier this month that “It thinks it knows your friends,” met with a lot of consternation and anxiety.

The new sharing feature on its new product, Google Reader, allows others that you talk to or have contact through your computer to see what you see. The Google reader has in one of its features a sharing option.

This allows the user to share with certain people posts that you would view online; it shares them with others in a feature of its blog Reader. But it by default allows anyone that you have spoken with in Google Talk to see these posts too.

Google Toolbar Back In Trouble

According to media reports Thursday, actress Mischa Barton was arrested last night for DUI, possession of narcotics and driving on a suspended license.

Berlin (dbtechno) - Google’s latest in a long series of court battles concerning patent infringement is not going well for the computer giant.

Last week the U.S. Court of Appeals ruled that the browser toolbar featured in Google’s Toolbar add on is guilty of an infringement on a patent. A lower court had found previously that the toolbar was new content and not guilty of any copyright or patient infringement.

In another ruling, the AdSense advertising service, which is also part of the Google browser add-on, was found to be free of any infringement. Read more

The latest group to enter into the online digital movie fray is News Corp, in the guise of its movie studio, Twentieth Century Fox.

Boston (dbtechno) - The latest group to enter into the online digital movie fray is News Corp, in the guise of its movie studio, Twentieth Century Fox.

Fox Studios and Apple computers jointly announced that they would be renting movies through the iTunes store online. Apple has for quite some time been working with the major studios to try and get them to rent movies using their new iTunes venue, but studios have been slow to jump on the bandwagon.

Until now there has been no studio willing to participate, Fox Movie Studios would be the first. Read more

A version of the Bible was successfully inscribed on an area smaller than the head of a pin last week.  Researchers studying Ion and Particle beans announced their work at a press conference to promote nanoscience and various nanotechnologies..

Israel (dbtechno) - A version of the Bible was successfully inscribed on an area smaller than the head of a pin last week. Researchers studying Ion and Particle beans announced their work at a press conference to promote nanoscience and various nanotechnologies.

Three hundred thousand words of Hebrew text were written on a silicon surface to show the ability of Ion Beans to be used for very small tasks. The writing was done with an instrument called a Focused Ion Beam. Read more

U.S. Army Looks To Apple For Hardware

The Army has been mainly focused on the use of IBM compatible computers for its military and support computer usage. Much of this has been due to compatibility issues; much of the Apple Computer Company hardware has not been compatible with U.S. Army uses or equipment.

This is slowly starting to change. According to former Apple employee Jonathan Broskey, the Apple Mac computer running the Apple version of Unix is more stable, and more secure than IBM compatible computers. Read more

Boston (dbtechno) - The battle of the DVD formats continues in full force with no clear victor in sight.

The rival DVD formats are both seeking to be the heir apparent to the DVD generation. Each offers improvements in resolution, picture clarity and sound over the standard DVD format, but therein lies part of the problem.

Without a pricey dual format player, neither Blue-Ray nor High Definition DVD disks will play on the others machines. So if you purchase a Blue-Ray disk, unless you have a Blue-Ray player you wont be able to access the disk.

Blue-Ray is ahead in the current battle for supremacy, but not by much. Read more
