Toys R Us Pushes the Limits on Black Friday
The American Scrooge has been complaining for years that the holiday rush hits a little bit sooner each year. However, it wasn’t until the 1970s that Black Friday became a major holiday shopping event, created largely by the retailers themselves. Toys R Us is proving that stores really will do anything to get an edge in a tight market.
For the 2013 shopping season, the kids’ paradise is throwing the doors open at 5 p.m.; forget Black Friday- shopping can start with a vengeance while the turkey coma is still wearing off.
Don’t throw stones without cause, however- KMart has been luring in Thanksgiving football widows for years and Sears is giving a sneak-peak of their offerings on Thanksgiving morning.
Toys R Us’ doorbusters include plenty of sought-after holiday offerings, including an iPod, Lego products and other brands ranging from Polly Pocket to last year’s holiday rage, Zhu Zhu Pets.
