Blockbuster Offers $1.3 Billion To Acquire Circuit City

Washington (dbTechno) - Blockbuster Inc. announced on Monday that they have put in a $1.3 billion offer to buy electronic retail giant Circuit City Stores Inc.

FCC Fines Retailers For Not Informing Customers About DTV Transition

Washington (dbTechno) - The Federal Communication Commission has fined retailers for not telling customers about the upcoming transition to DTV. The retailers fined include Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, and Circuit City.

Washington (dbTechno) - Now that Toshiba’s HD DVD format is gone, the Sony Blu-ray format is able to lead the way in high-definition retail stores with all different kinds of promotions. The latest promotions, coming from the likes of Amazon and others, have some Blu-ray movies selling for under $15.
Many retail stores are going to continue to cut Blu-ray prices as much as they can over the coming months. The idea is going to be to try and get consumers to buy into the fact that Blu-ray is around the same price of the regular standard DVD format. Once they are able to do this they will likely be able to sell more Blu-ray players as well. Read more

Washington (dbTechno) - Toshiba is trying to keep the HD DVD format alive in the wake of the announcement that Warner Bros. would exclusively support the Blu-ray format. Toshiba is getting more aggressive with pricing as they have cut the price of three models of their HD DVD players.
Their entry-level HD DVD player model, the HD-A3 will now retail for $149.99, while the HD-A30 will retail for $199.99, and the HD-A35 will retail for $299.99. Read more
Sony PS3 Makes Up Majority of Blu-ray Player Sales

Las Vegas (dbTechno) - The Blu-ray Disc Association has revealed that there are now 3.5 million Blu-ray players in homes that have been sold to date, and 3 million of those are Sony PS3 gaming consoles.
