Driver Issues Put Hold On Vista Service Pack 1

February 6, 2008

Ever since its release, Windows Vista has been hampered by problems with drivers. That same problem has come up again and put a hold on the release of Service Pack 1. Testing has revealed that SP1 has problems with driver updatesBoston (dbTechno) - Ever since its release, Windows Vista has been hampered by problems with drivers. That same problem has come up again and put a hold on the release of Service Pack 1. Testing has revealed that SP1 has problems with driver updates.

Beta testing managed to help Microsoft discover that some device drivers do not install the correct way with the SP1 update.

This comes just days after Microsoft announced that Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista has been released to manufacturing.

This puts the release date at March for Vista SP1.

Microsoft stated “These drivers do not follow our guidelines for driver installation and as a result, some beta participants who were using Windows Vista and updated to Service Pack 1 reported issues with these devices. Because the issue was with the way the drivers were installed and not the drivers themselves, the solution was simply to reinstall the drivers. While this worked fine for our more technical beta testers, we want to deliver a better experience for customers as we make the update broadly available.”

Windows will not offer SP1 to computers with known device issues.

Vista SP1 will now be automatically installed in April.
