Their senior VP and chief technology officer, Phil Hester, has resigned from his post.

Hester marks the third senior executive to step down from AMD in under a year.

This comes during a week when AMD announced they could have to cut 10% of its workforce, or around 1,600 employees.

It also reported a lackluster first quarter in terms of revenue.

Hester joined AMD back in 2005 and was an integral part of the company in many facets. One of his biggest tasks currently was to head the next-gen micro-processor the Fusion, due out in the second-half of next year.

Stepping in to head up Fusion will be Mike Uhler. He will report directly to the president and chief operating officer of AMD, Dirk Meyer.

There will be no replacement for the 52-year old Hester, as his tasks will simply be spread out among others within AMD.
