Dell To Install Windows XP After June Deadline
April 28, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - Dell has revealed that they will continue to sell and support Windows XP, allowing consumers to choose it as their operating system beyond the June 30, 2008 deadline set by Microsoft.
Microsoft has placed a June 30 deadline on Windows XP, with all sales of XP being cut off following that date, except for ultra low-cost PCs and notebooks.
Dell has found a loophole which will allow their customers to choose if they want Windows XP installed.
There is a licensing option in Vista Business and Vista Ultimate that allows PC makers to provide Windows XP under the Vista license.
Basically what it allows consumers to do is to purchase Windows XP with a Vista license. It allows them to use Windows XP, and shows up for Microsoft as a Vista sale.
Dell will give this option to consumers, allowing them to have Windows XP Professional pre-installed after the deadline.
The computers will all include the Windows Vista installation DVD so they can install Vista later on over XP if they want.
This is being touted as a “downgrade” program which could also be used by many other computer makers.
