HP Advances Electronic Circuitry With Memory-Resistor
May 1, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - HP has made a huge discovery as they have built a brand new element of electronic circuity caleld a memory-resistor. This could revolutionize the way in which computers are built and function.
The memory-resistor is known as memristor and could change the way data storage is done on computers.
This discovery marks the fourth passive circuit element after resistors, capacitors and inductors.
The memristor is nothing new, but it has only been a part of theory in the past.
The new technology could store data in smaller and more energy-efficient memory chips.
A working prototype of the memristor was developed by a team of scientists at the HP Labs unit. They revealed their findings in the journal Nature on Wednesday.
