Microsoft Launches Hyper-V Within Promised Deadline
June 26, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - Microsoft has entered into the market of server virtualization with the launch of its Hyper-V hypervisor.
Microsoft Hyper-V was delayed as it was originally scheduled to release with Windows Server earlier in 2008.
Instead, they had to delay the release, but promised to get it out within the next 180 days.
This would have given Microsoft until early August to release Hyper-V. Instead of waiting until the last minute, they have released it way before their set deadline.
Microsoft enters a market where they will be competing with the likes of VMware as well as Citrix.
The company hopes to catch up to the head-start they have given to competitors by aggressively pushing Hyper-V and training those involved.
Other big selling points, outside of the fact that it is fully integrated with Windows Server, are its high performance level, as well as its price point.
