Apple Now Third In U.S. PC Market As HP, Dell Lead Sales Increase

Boston (dbTechno) - The U.S. PC market now has the big three occupying the top three spots, as Apple has joined both Dell and HP at the top of the pack.
The figures were released for the second quarter of this year, and showed that Apple now has an 8.5% market share.
The numbers were released from the research firm Gartner Research, and show that overall, the worldwide PC market grew 16% compared to the same period a year ago.
Dell managed to keep the top spot in the U.S., with shipments making up 31.9% of the PC market, an 11.9% growth over last year.
HP is still the top dog in worldwide PC sales, with its market share up to 18.1%.
HP remains behind Dell in the U.S. with a 25.3% market share.
The leader of the market was mobile PCs, followed by desktop PCs. Worldwide PC shipments reached 71.9 million units in the second quarter of 2008, a 16% increase over last year.
The top five worldwide PC sellers were HP (18.1%), Dell (15.6%), Acer (9.4%), Lenovo (7.8%), and Toshiba (4.4%).
