San Francisco (dbTechno) – Google has expanded their program in San Francisco that they have in place with Google’s Grand Central Group and the city’s Project Homeless Connect. They have began to give out free lifelong phone numbers and voice mails to many homeless people in the city.
San Francisco has a vast homeless population, and Google is trying to keep them connected as best that they can.
The program was launched by Mayor Gavin Newsom on Thursday in San Francisco, along with the help of California’s Pacific Medical Center initiative which will give medical aid to the homeless.
Newsom stated “Providing phone and messaging capabilities and access to vital health care is an extraordinary step forward in the city’s commitment to a comprehensive approach to addressing the needs of this vulnerable community.”
He stated that housing the homless is still the top priority, but it is good to give them these services.
Homeless will be able to record greetings and check messages from any phone with the free phone numbers and voice mail.
Google is working to make thsi available throughout the homeless shelters in the city.
