A tragic medical error has taken place in Minnesota, as a surgical team removed the wrong kidney from a kidney cancer patient.Washington (dbTechno) - A tragic medical error has taken place in Minnesota, as a surgical team removed the wrong kidney from a kidney cancer patient.

The error took place at the Methodist Hospital, and according to officials, the mix-up began weeks ago.

Initially, they have now noted that the kidney on the wrong side was identified as the cancerous kidney, marked out for removal.

The patient was left with only one cancerous kidney, with the healthy one now out.

Hospital officials have come out and apologized to the patient and family, and are trying to support them.

Dr. Samuel Carlson, chief medical officer for Park Nicollet Health Services stated that they feel “profoundly responsible for this.”

The hospital revealed the error in a memo sent out on Monday to employees.

The surgeon in the case has voluntarily taken a leave, no longer seeing patients until the mistake is fixed.

The patient is still at the Methodist Hospital and is going over treatment options from this point forward.
