Washington (dbTechno) – 63-year-old Brooke Zepp from South Florida had to have six abdominal organs removed in her cancer surgery. She was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma, which is a very rare cancerous tumor, last May.
The 63-year-old was originally given on six months to live as doctors did not believe they would be able to perform the surgery. The problem was that the location of the cancerous tumor was so deep that they would not be able to get to it to remove it without damaging organs.
She tried to go through chemotherapy, as well as radiation, but neither worked.
Surgeons at The Transplant Institute at the University of Miami / Jackson Memorial Medical Center gave it a shot though.
They removed six internal organs from the woman, which allowed them to cut out the cancerous tumor.
They then put the organs back into the woman.
Dr. Andreas Tzakis stated that they had to remove all organs, including blood vessels.
The surgery lasted over 15-hours.
The organs, including her small intestine, liver, spleen, pancreas, as well as parts of her large intestine, were outside of her body for about an hour-and-a-half and were kept chilled.
Zepp is now recovering and is doing quite well, as the surgery was a success.
Never say Never
You save life.
Great Job
Well done
God Bless You
My Regards
i was very happy to see this operation succeed. My son is 23 years old and has a sarcoma tumor that is on his heart, lungs, liver and is wrapped around his venacava artery and has moved into his stomach. He has been going through months of chemo and the University of Michigan hospital is finally going to attempt to take it out next month after wondering if it could be done. We have been devasted by this and seeing Brooke’s story has given us more hope.
God bless all the doctors that give people like us hope.
