Prolonged Cell Phone Use More Than Doubles Brain Cancer Risk

According to a new study, prolonged cell phone use has been linked to brain cancer as well as tissue damage. The study stated that exposure to mobile phone radiation causes the risk to greatly increase over timeBoston (dbTechno) – According to a new study, prolonged cell phone use has been linked to brain cancer as well as tissue damage. The study stated that exposure to mobile phone radiation causes the risk to greatly increase over time.

The study was led by neurosurgeon Dr. Vini Khurana, and stated that exposure to mobile phone radiation has many effects on the body.

The effects on the body include greatly increasing the risk of brain cancer. Those who use cell phones for over 10 years have more than double the risk compared to those who were not exposed to mobile phone radiation.

Dr. Khurana stated that three billion people in the world now use cell phones. This is three times the number of people who smoke, proving to be a huge health risk.

The warning put out by Dr. Khurana is to avoid using mobile phones whenever possible.

He also stated that it is important for consumers to speak out to the mobile phone industry, to get them to make safer phones.

Khurana is fearful that because of this increased cell phone use, there may be a spike in the number of malignant brain tumors around the world in the next ten years.

He stated the danger presented here is far greater than asbestos and smoking.

It was reported on in the UK’s Independent newspaper.

  • Why should we believe him?
It is a fact that mobile phones do not emit enough radiation to cause atoms to be displaed from DNA which is what initiates cancers, so what is the causative mechanism?
If the claim is that the cell phone radiation heats up the brain tissues, then you can also claim that getting your head warmed by sitting in the sun causes brain cancer.
This is STUPID. Cite some scientific facts before making dumb newspaper announcements to scare the public.

  • As much as I would like to agree with you John, I don’t agree with you on the piece about the sun heating up your brain. The sun heats things ups through UV radiation which is largely impenetratable. It would stop short of making it through the skull. On the other hand radiowaves are able to penetrate walls, buildings, and even the human mind. So the brain is exposed to radio waves at a larger depth than the UV rays. However I agree with you on the judgement of this article. It’s just a scare and there is no cited scientific evidence.

  • Then using a heating pad would be capable of warming up the head? Heat doesn’t need to penetrate the skull to warm the contents inside of it. Sitting outside on a warm sunny day can indeed cause someone to have serious heath-related problems, despite being covered on the rest of the body. Consider the issue of heat stress and/or heat stroke. Warming of the blood inside of the body through the head or through the body can cause tremendous damage – all of which has nothing to do with electromagnetic radiation. It is caused entirely by infrared radiation. Despite all of the endless studies conducted looking for a link between cell phones and brain cancer, there is not one shred of convincing evidence. This physician has produced one of the worst pieces of research I have read in many months (relying on internet news clippings for sources!). Compare his work to other peer-reviewed publications. This one is definitely not up to snuff.

  • It’s amazing how some news sources give a scary headline to drum up interest in a story… in this case a non-story. How about an accurate headline like “Doctor claims without evidence that Prolonged Cell Phone Use More Than Doubles Brain Cancer Risk”? Please, dbTechno, write respectable headlines.

  • Brain tumors account for 1.4% of all cancers. So even if this guy’s claims were true (which is at odds with most scientific/medical research on this topic to date), your total risk of getting cancer would only increase by 1.4% if you use a cell phone. That’s still significant, but not nearly as alarming as it sounds at first glance. And there’s a high probability this guy is just a crackpot.

  • Hello,
I was one of the pioneers in the cellular industry and I have for years cautioned and warned family and friends of the danger of putting a radio transmitter (RF energy) to ones head.

Many years ago, sometime in the early 80′s I was shown a report documenting the damage caused to cells by RF energy. This report was commissioned by a cellular phone manufacturer. I would think this report has since gone “up in smoke”.

To those who view themselves as indestructible, I ask. Would you place your head in a microwave oven?

  • Hi,
wow that’s an intersting news i ever heard before; i hope the cell pone services should start to make safe cell phon for people.
