Washington (dbTechno) – The software giant Microsoft has developed a new tool to help law enforcement bypass any type of security built into the Windows operating system. The tool is called COFEE.
COFEE stands fro Computer Online Forensic Evidence Extractor.
The tool is a USB mass-storage device which began showing up in law enforcement offices back in June.
On the USB mass-storage device there is a toolkit of sorts which can do all types of things to get around security measures.
It has the ability to decrypt passwords, copy history logs in terms of where a person was on the Internet, as well as the ability to access any file they please. It gives law enforcement the ability to free roam in Windows XP basically without anything blocking them.
Microsoft is offering the tool free of charge to law enforcement officers.
The software giant believes it kills the need to actually seize a computer, as the tool can scan the computer wherever it is.
