May 11, 2008
Green Bay (dbTechno) - On Saturday night, a University of Wisconsin Med Flight helicopter crashed, leaving three people dead including the pilot, a nurse, and a doctor.
The helicopter had just left the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, and was heading to Madison.
The medical helicopter had just dropped off a patient at the medical center, and soon after, crashed in Onalaska.
It was found at 8:40 a.m. on Sunday morning. Among the dead include the pilot, doctor, and a nurse. The names have been released as Dr. Darren Bean, M.D. Mark Coyne, and R.N. Steve Lipperer.
The medical helicopter was leased from Air Methods in Englewood.
The cause of the crash is not yet known, but Air Methods is working with the Federal Aviation Administration to try and determine that.
Reports state that the likely scenario is that the medical helicopter ran into some trees. Sources also state another Med Flight helicopter had to be grounded on Sunday.
