MySpace Awarded $230 Million Anti-Spam Judgment

Boston (dbTechno) – The popular social networking site MySpace has been awarded the largest anti-spam judgment in history, worth $230 million.

A federal judge in Los Angeles made the ruling against Sanford Wallace, also known as the Spam King, along with his partner Walter Rines.

MySpace had quite a few headaches from these two spammers in the past as they created their own MySpace accounts, stole passwords, etc.

They then sent out spam e-mails to MySpace members trying to get them to buy things such as ring tones and more.

MySpace believes the two sent out more than 730,000 spam messages in total to MySpace members.

Under the anti-spam law, CAN-SPAM, each violation carries a $100 fine owed to MySpace. This ended up coming out to a $230 million judgment in the end.

Even if MySpace does not get to collect all the money, the hope is that it may scare future spammers away.
