Washington (dbTechno) – Reports state that a possible case of the swine flu may have infected a Royal Caribbean cruise ship. The only good sign coming out of this is that Royal Caribbean appears to have handled it all with precise and effective measures, as no one beyond the two crew members has gotten sick.
There are currently two members of the crew on the Royal Caribbean Serenade of the Seas that may have come down with the swine flu.
The feeling is that the cruise ship, which has over 2,000 passengers, could have been infected by the potentially deadly virus.
The ship was sailing in Alaska, and to this point the two crew members appear to have fully recovered.
Both of them tested positive on the cruise ship for influenza A, but it has yet to be confirmed if it is the H1N1 strain, which is the swine flu.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are running tests to confirm or deny the cases.
The two members of the crew remained quarantined for days while they recovered.
This comes after Royal Caribbean suspended going to ports in Mexico.
So the cruise ship with two sick crew members decided to take them to Alaska where there are no cases of swine flu as an experiment? They weighed the risk of infecting Alaskans, 2000 passengers and crew and decided it was worth it.
Brilliant.
steveconn – you’re an idiot – seriously, use your head. The cruise was obviously well on its voyage by the time these crew members became ill. And they are not going to cancel an entire cruise for upwards of 3000 vacationers b/c two staffers are sick and quarantined with something that hasn’t even been identified as anything past influenza A.
By your logic we should shut down every airport on earth because we run the risk of infecting some places where swine flu hasn’t popped up yet. Royal Caribbean did a fine job here, not a single case has been reported by any of their passengers and the crew members are recovering.
