Mexican Carlos Slim Named World’s Richest Man

For those of you who thought that Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates was the richest man in the world think again as according to Forbes, he is ranked number 2 behind Carlos Slim.

Slim owns his own telecom empire and according to the list has a net worth of 53.5 billion buckaroos.

Slim is a relatively unknown name to Americans because he does not live in the US, calling Mexico his home.

Reports surfaced recently indicating that he might be buying the New York Times, but he quickly put those rumors to bed.

He made a good chunk of his change in the 90′s investing in various Mexican telecom companies and since then has not looked back.

Those fans of Bill Gates may not fear, as he was second behind Slim, with a net worth of more than 53 billion dollars himself last year.

Rounding out the top 3 is American super investor Warren Buffett whose net worth is 47 billion bucks.
