Ohio Upsets Georgetown 97-83

Surviving the first round of March Madness is easier said than done, and is the reason why the biggest college basketball tournament of the year has such a fitting name. Yesterday the biggest upset on the hardwood was the 14th seeded Ohio Bobcats defeating the third seeded team from Georgetown, led by Armon Bassett who poured in 32 points.

In their conference play, Ohio actually had a losing record, and only gained entry into March Madness by winning their Mid-American Conference tital. Last night however, the played as if they actually belonged in the tournament, beating Georgetown convincingly by a score of 97-83.

Now the Bobcats will advance to play for a spot in the Sweet 16 in a game to be played on Saturday. Their coach, John Groce, realizes that yesterday’s win was big, but says that he is not sure if it was the biggest in history for the program: “I certainly think it’s one of them,” he said. “What it does more than anything is it gives belief in our guys in what we’re doing.”
