Doggie Doo Powers Streetlight in Arizona Park
Gilbert, Arizona – Local city officials came up with a novel idea to fund a project that would make use of the abundant supply of doggie doodle at the Cosmo Dog Park.
The dog park itself is frequented regular by over two hundred canines and was said to cost the city several thousand a year to clean up. So the city decided to fund a $25,000 project by students at the University of Arizona to devise a machine to power the dark park lamp using the methane from the dog excrement.
The solution still requires dog owners clean up after their pets but rather than dump the refuse into trash receptacles or simply leave it on the ground, owners can place the refuse in biodegradable bags and drop in into the “digester” machine, crank a handle to turn the excrement, and let the methane rise and fuel the lamp.
