One of Jason Loose’s nicknames is the “French Fry Brother.” He was given that name when he gave a homeless woman a packet of french fries and a drink of water. This seemingly small act has given the young man from California, who is studying in China, a small bit of fame.

Sometimes people think that a small act like this won’t amount to much. No one can realize what effect it will have on the recipient.

This act has become viral in China, causing many citizens of the People’s Republic to do much soul searching, as the pursuit of riches in modern times cause people to live in a “moral vacuum.”

“It was such a heartwarming scene, but brought by a foreign young man,who offers his love, care and trust to a stranger in need,” username Hunlizhuchiquhui wrote on China’s Twitter-like micro-blogging site, Sina Weibo, according Xinhua. “It makes me reflect on whether I could do what he does.”

Loose told the the L.A. Times he only stayed with her for a few minutes — but before he left, asked an important question should he see her again:

“I asked what’s her favorite food to eat?” he said. “Her answer was ‘not French fries.’”

Even though Loose had no money to give, he felt that maybe a bit of refreshment would give a brief moment of comfort. He may have caused the whole country of China a moment of comfort. One never knows what reaction a randpom act of kindness will bring.
