Gigantic Squid Found Floating Off Australian Coast
A boatload of fishermen sailing along Australia’s coastline in search of tuna have come upon the body of a gigantic squid floating in the waters.
The squid, whose size was more than three metres in length, was found dead along the coast of Jervis Bay.
Fishing experts, including The Fishing Bible author, Al McGlashan who was aboard the fishing expedition boat, are calling this “a rare find” that provides proof that gigantic squid exist in the ocean depths in this part of the world.
“It must have died not that long before we found it because it didn’t smell at all and its colours were still strong. Most giant squid remains are smelly and rotten and just off-white by the time someone finds them,” Mr McGlashan was quoted as saying.
McGlashan says he has spent more than 200 days annually fishing in these coastal waters and this is the first time he’s enjoyed an up close experience of seeing a giant squid.
In addition to its huge size, its bright orange color is a very distinctive feature of this sea creature and fish expert McGlashan insists he’s “never seen anything like it.”
The squid was too big and heavy for the crew to pull on board for further examination.
