F-16 Engines Stolen From Military Base

Israel Defense Forces are reporting that numerous F-16 fighter jet engines have been stolen from one of their Israel Air Force Base.

On Friday, a spokesperson with the IDF stated that the engines were stolen on December 6, 2012 from an unnamed base.

The engines are very large and not easy for someone to steal without being detected. Each engine weighs more than 1.5 tons and they were out of the jets because they were slated to be repaired.

The thieves needed to be able to drive large vehicles on and off the base without being detected and since the perimeter fence of the base was not breeched, according to Arutz Sheva, it is believed that someone inside the base was involved in the theft.

It is believed that the engines were stolen for a profit by metal thieves due to the fact that a similar robbery took place in July.
