Heidi is a proud senior citizen representing the rabbits of the world. This large, elderly bunny is proof that swimming makes sense for humans and animals alike. Ms. Heidi uses the sport of swimming just as many older people use hydrotherapy for muscle and joint pain.
According to METRO, Her owner was dismayed when this rabbit began to show a loss of normal mobility. After a trip to the nearby vet it was decided that hydrotherapy might offer a glimmer of hope. Hydrotherapy sessions have been very helpful for horses and dogs with bone, joint and muscle problems. Perhaps these same swimming sessions could alleviate the mobility issues now affecting the formerly bouncy Heidi.
No one had tried this therapy with a land-loving bunny, but Heidi has taken to this activity as though she had been born with flippers. She is placed in a special buoyancy device that acts as a life jacket. Her long ears are protected with a water cap and then this little rabbit enjoys a 45 minute swim and exercise session in a warm hydrotherapy pool.
It seems as though you can still teach new tricks to both old dogs and old rabbits.
