Long Island Gun Raid
A Long Island, NY man has been arrested for unlawful firearm possession after police had run an undercover operation against him. Law enforcement officers raided the man’s home after receiving a tip from a gun owner about the weapons he saw in the house.
Jay Steiner, 66, of was taken into custody after police seized 85 handguns without any legal paperwork for them, 230 rifles and shotguns, along with ammunition – 300 guns seized in total. Police believe that Steiner may have been gunning a business from his home, which is located near a high school in Centereach, Long Island.
Police also discovered that Steiner’s registered federal permit had expired in 2004 and Steiner had business cards which showcased the federal permit number. The illegal business cards would have allowed him to purchase and sell guns.
Police discovered at least 6 loaded guns inside. Steiner also had numerous unloaded guns with ammunition next to the weapons scattered about his personal items. Guns were stored in areas throughout Steiner’s home and one official said that Steiner had more weapons than the poilce who raided his home.
Steiner was released on bail and has a court date in April.
