If you thought the deals advertised on Walmart’s website yesterday were too good to be true, it turns out you were right.
The Walmart glitch, as it is not being dubbed, was an internal technical error.
A ‘technical error’ on the retail giant’s website caused certain products to be priced absurdly low, causing an online shopping frenzy.
According to reports, Walmart reportedly got the site working again about 11am, but admitted there would intermittent availability problems throughout the day.
‘We experienced a technical error that caused some items to show incorrect pricing,’ Ravi Jariwala, a spokesman for Walmart’s online operations, said.
‘We apologize for any inconvenience to our customers.
‘I want to make very clear this is not a hack. This is an internal technical error.’
A spokesman for Walmart said the company was scanning the millions of items on its site to see if there are still any technical errors causing price discrepancies following the Walmart glitch.
“The issue has been resolved and Walmart.com is open for all,” Walmart spokesman Ravi Jariwala told ABCNews.com. “Given the wide discrepancy in pricing, we are notifying customers who ordered these items that their orders have been canceled and that they’ll be refunded in full. In addition, we will send these customers a $10 e-gift card that can be used toward future purchases at Walmart stores and Walmart.com.”
