Atheist Billboards

Just as Christmas decorations just going up this year, a Sacramento atheist group plans on doing a little holiday decorating of their own. Starting on the Monday after Thanksgiving, the Greater Sacramento Chapter of Freedom From Religion Foundation plans to erect as many as 55 pro-atheist billboards in the Sacramento area.

The Atheist billboards, adorned with messages such as “Live for now, not for after”, and “A life of love, no Gods required”, have predictably sent Christian groups on the offensive. However, Judy Saint, president of the Greater Sacramento Chapter of Freedom From Religion Foundation, insists that the movement is not about being anti-God, but rather about not embracing a god.

The billboards were established in order to promote the foundations “Out of the Closet” campaign, which seeks to persuade closet atheists to speak their minds on the subject. “It’s because atheists are starting to speak up and they’re beginning to identify each other and find out they’re not alone,” Judy Saint reported.

The billboards will also feature up to 55 people from the Sacramento area, including their pictures, their occupations, and a personal message from them. Although the billboards will be up for around a month, the foundation plans to continue their campaign for years to come.
