SPC. Jacob Montgomery was there when the big storms blew through and he survived as he watched his apartment destroyed and much of the rest of his town leveled to the ground. In a blink of an eye, a few hours at most, his entire life had been altered. His apartment was gone, all of his valuables destroyed, and his dog missing. His story is not unique as, along with millions of others, Jacob experienced one of the 76 tornadoes that touched down across the Midwest on November 17th.
According to Montgomery he searched the rubble where his apartment was and all around the neighborhood for days trying to find his lost pup, Dexter, but to no avail. It was not until he had given up hope that he received a phone call from a friend. Apparently his dog had been found by a local rescue group underneath a bunch of rubble and, miraculously, had survived.
Upon hearing the news Jacob was relieved and very grateful, “I am lucky. All I had in my apartment is gone, but my dog was all I really had to worry about.”
Though lives have been irreparably changed there is one glimmer of hope.
