Pensacola, Florida – a local Grinch has made out with 50 Christmas trees in this city of 461,000 inhabitants. Local merchant Suzanne Eaton ordered 300 Christmas trees ahead of the holiday season and had them delivered to her venue in front of Tate High School on the Thanksgiving weekend. However, when she arrived to take inventory the following morning, she realized that thieves had purloined the pick of the litter: 50 fir trees. Each of the fir trees has a market value of $120 and Eaton estimates that her loss was $5,000. Incidentally, her math is off as 50 * $120 = $6,000.
Eaton has been in the seasonal business of selling Christmas trees for the past 27 years and she has ties to the local community. In fact, a portion of the proceeds from her tree sales goes to support the Tate High School basketball program. Naturally, she is incensed at the theft and told reporters that never in all her years of selling trees have this many been lifted. She has made an appeal to the community that anyone with knowledge of those involved in the theft come forward and contact the local police.
