Athena Orchard Left 3000 Word Note Before Dying Of Cancer

Grieving Family Finds 3,000 Word Note from the Late 13-year-old Daughter

New Parks, England – Athena Orchard was a beautiful young woman who at age 13 really did not get much of a chance to experience life, but tragedy strikes when least expected. Just before Christmas, Athena, the oldest of her parents seven children, collapsed while helping out in the kitchen. Tests revealed that the 12-year-old was suffering from a form of bone cancer called osteosarcoma. The prognosis for recovery is 90% if it is found in stage I. In Ms. Orchards case, she ended up having only months to live. Despite her struggle with her own mortality, family say she braved the illness.

She passed away last week and her parents began the difficult task of going through her belongings. It was then that they discovered a 3,000 word message from Athena written on the paper backing of her full body mirror. The words she wrote included wisdom well beyond her years, but still proves heartbreaking for them to read. The family has decided to share the message with the public so that others may be touched and uplifted by the example of their daughter. Here are some of the wisdom this young teen wrote:

  • “Happiness is a direction not a destination.”

“Every day is special, so make the most of it.”

“You could get a life-ending illness tomorrow so make the most of every day… Life is only bad if you make it bad.”

“Love is not about who you can see spending your future with it’s about who you can’t see spending your life without.”

“Life is a game for everyone but love is the only prize.”

“Maybe it’s not about the happy ending, maybe it’s about the story.”

“You know my name, not my story.”

“You have heard what I’ve done, but not what I’ve been through.”

“The purpose of life is a life of purpose.”

    “Happiness depends upon ourselves.”

“The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra.”

“Thank you for existing. Be happy, be free, believe, forever young.”

“If someone loves you then they wouldn’t let you slip away no matter how hard the situation is.”

“Remember that life is full of ups and downs, without the downs the ups don’t mean anything.”

“I’m waiting to fall in love with someone I can open my heart to.”

“Love is like glass, looks so lovely, but it’s easy to shatter.”

“Love is rare, life is strange, nothing lasts and people change.”

“Every day is special, so make the most of it. You could get a life-ending illness tomorrow so make the most of every day.”

“Life is only bad if you make it bad.”

Adding to the depth of her words is the fact that Ms. Orchard lost her beautiful hair. She lost most of her physical strength. Her parents say that one thing endured during her final months of life: her positive attitude. Their daughter truly left behind words that everyone has to live by.
