Farmer Bethan Davies described Jake the five-legged lamb as “really happy”

According to reports a five-legged lamb was born at a Welsh farm last week.

The lamb, which has now become an internet sensation, was born at Rhiwlas Farm near Lake Vyrnwy, Powys.

The astonishing creature was born on Thursday to farmer Bethan Davies of Rhiwlas Farm in mid Wales, reports the BBC.

The animal named Jake was healthy and doing well, the owner said.

“He seems really happy, he’s feeding well and bouncing around like a normal lamb. He is doing really well,” she said.

Ms Davies added: “We have never had anything like this before, apparently it’s really rare.”

In a video filmed by Davies, Jake can be seen hopping around the enclosure using his four limbs, with the extra one dangling at the front.

Jake isn’t the first five-legged lamb to be born in the UK though.

A similar occurrence happened on a farm near Newcastle upon Tyne in England back in 2013, when a five-legged lamb named Quinto was born.

Jake isn’t the first lamb born with five legs. In 2013 a lamb was born with five legs at a farm in Northumberland.

Named Quinto by staff at Whitehouse Farm Centre in Morpeth, it was born with an additional front limb which was fully formed and did not cause the animal any problems, according to manager Heather Hogarty.
