Price of $100 Laptop Almost Doubles
September 18, 2007
Washington (dBTechno) - The One Laptop Per Child projrect has come out and stated that the price of their XO laptop has been raised way above the $100 price which was originally set as it is now priced at $188.
The OLPC project has raised the price of their XO laptop to $188. The original idea was to put out a laptop for $100 which everyone could purchase and enjoy to help developing countries and such with schooling.
OLPC spokesman George Snell confirmed the price hike stating that “currency fluctuations” were to blame for the $88 price increase.
There is no telling what type of impact this price hike is going to have on consumers who may have been planning to pick one of these laptops up when they hit retail.
In August Quanta Computer Inc. did a test run of 300 units to get things rolling. Mass production of the OLPC XO laptop will begin in early October.
