Cellphone Carriers Agree on Universal Charger for Europe
June 29, 2009

Boston (DbTechNo) - Big name cellphone companies including Nokia and Sony Ericsson have agreed to develop a universal cellphone charger for Europe.
This will mean that starting next year, the majority of cellphones available in Europe will be able to be charged with the same charger.
Too often, different cellphone providers have individual chargers that only work for the given phone, which can be annoying if you lose your charger.
The deal will also mean that if a person buys a new phone, they do not need to buy the accompanying charger.
“People will not have to throw away their charger whenever they buy a new phone,” said EU Industry Commissioner Guenter Verheugen.
This deal also will cut down on the huge number of chargers that are used, thus saving on the environment.
It is estimated that there are more than 400 million cellphones operating in Europe.
