Boston (dbTechno) – Netflix customers will now have the option to rent as many movies and television shows as they want thanks to a new unlimited streaming video on-demand service which will be immediately available to all 7 million unlimited rental subscribers.
Netflix, the DVD rental company, has stated that the on-demand services will start at a subscription price of just $8.99 per month.
The announcement came on Monday, one day before Apple is expected to announce their own online rental service on iTunes.
The unlimited rental plans start at just $8.99 per month for subscribers, and the 7 million who are already on with a subscription Netflix will not have to pay any extra to get the service.
The chief marketing officer of Netflix, Leslie Kilgore, stated “Unlimited has always been a very powerful selling point with our subscribers and a large part of what set us apart in the marketplace. In talking with members about our streaming feature during the past year, it became clear that, as with DVDs, the idea of streaming unlimited movies and TV episodes on a PC resonated quite strongly. And we’re now in a good position to offer that.”
Subscribers who pay for two DVDs a month at $4.99 will be able to get 2-hours of streaming video for free.
Netflix currently has over 90,000 DVD titles and will expand it greatly.
