Sony made their announcement at their annual retail and publisher conference Destination PlayStation.

They announced the release of the upcoming PS3 Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle.

They stated that the bundle will include an 80GB PS3, along with the upcoming blockbuster release Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and a Dual Shock 3 controller. The entire bundle will release for $499.

“Working closely with our retail and publishing partners and sharing our hardware and software roadmaps at Destination PlayStation gives us a great opportunity to outline some key milestones for the year. In response to incredible demand, we will be manufacturing more 80GB PS3s for North America and the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots 80GB PS3 bundle is an ideal way to offer that continued value to our consumers,” said Jack Tretton, president and CEO, SCEA. “With Blu-ray having won the format war, our stellar software line-up and a broad product portfolio, we will continue to drive the incredible momentum we’ve been generating since last fall.”
They also announced that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will release in North America in late Q2 2008.

A Metal Gear Online Starter Pack is also planned to support online play of up to 16 players online.

They will launch a pre-sell promotion as well which will guarantee PS3 owners access to the multiplayer beta test for Metal Gear Online, scheduled for late April.

  • not a very bright idea. Just when the ps3 was becoming more affordable sony jacks up the price with a bundle? dumb. Tretton is a moron. BLURAY has no bearing on games. If it did, the 360 games wouldn’t be looking/playing better than the ps3 counterparts, with the review scores to prove it. With this type of thinking, sony deserves to stay in last place.
