Educational cartoons that still manage to provide a great deal of entertainment are sometimes hard to find. There are many cartoons out there for kids, but none quite like Caillou. I have a few nieces and nephews and one cartoon they always sit down to watch is Caillou, for some reason or another. Needless to say, they were excited to see Caillou: Caillou’s Family Favorites hit DVD.

The set of episodes from the show has been released by Paramount and PBS and puts forth some fun and quality entertainment for the little ones out there.

Caillou always seems to find a way to get in trouble, but in the end he always ends up learning his lesson.

The DVD set features 4 episodes from the show, including Caillou’s Suprirse, People I Love, Captain Caillou, and Knowing How.

I was sitting there watching a little cousin of mine watch this DVD, just taking in what he was doing and how he was reacting to the show, and I couldn’t help but smile. Caillou is a very energetic little kid and the cartoon had my cousin singing along, playing, and taking part in what was going on.

The four episodes are very enjoyable for the little ones and will be watched over and over again, without question.

There are also some nice special features included here in the DVD release.

The first special feature includes some biographies on some of the characters in the show, including Grandma, Caillou, Grandma, Dad, Mom, Rosie, and the cat Gilbert.

There is also a feature which is basically a message to parents, giving a bit of background on Caillou, the research that went into the show, created by child psychologist Nicole Nadeau, and what it teaches kids.

There are some interactive games and coloring pages as well included as well if you pop this disc in your DVD-Rom drive.

I was quite impressed to see a kids release of this nature receive special features. It is clear that PBS and Paramount did not take the shortcut route and just throw four episodes of the show on a DVD and release it for kids to eat up. They took the time to add some nice special features as well, which many movie releases do not even get. Caillou is a very entertaining show for the little ones, and this DVD release is one which parents should surely check out!

Episodes: 8.5 A great four episodes from the Caillou show, which kids will enjoy over and over.

Video: 8.0 Just like the TV show, clear colors, nothing over the top.

Audio: 8.0 The audio is your standard mix, very clear dialogue.

Special Features: 7.5 It is great to see some nice features added into a release such as this for kids.

Final Score: 7.8
