Microsoft Ready For Xbox 360 Price Cut In U.S.

According to reports, Microsoft may be getting ready to cut the price of the Xbox 360 in the U.S. to better compete with the Nintendo Wii and the Sony PS3. This comes one day after they announced price cuts in Europe, putting the Xbox 360 Arcade sku at a lower price than the Wii.

The Nintendo Wii is believed to be having much of its success because of its lower price point. Microsoft saw this in Europe and has responded, announcing a price cut of the Xbox 360 there across all models.

This dropped the price of the Xbox 360 Elite, Pro, and Arcade. The Xbox 360 Arcade sku, specifically, is now cheaper than the Nintendo Wii.

Reports are coming out that Microsoft may be getting ready to do the same here in the United States.

It is highly expected by analyst Michael Pachter that Microsoft will cut the price before Christmas. He stated that they will make the Xbox 360 Pro $299.

“If Sony cuts the price before then, I expect Microsoft to cut to at least $50 below the price of the PS3.”

The likely scenario is going to be another price war heading into the holiday season, with the Xbox 360 trying to stay cheaper than the PS3 due to a lack of Blu-ray player and such.

  • I think American consumers are smart enough to see a fire sale when they see it. HD DVD just had their fire sale, now it’s the xbox 2. It’s been 2.5 years since launch, time to bring out another ‘compete with Sony at all costs’ piece of junk. By summer 09 it will be announced for xmas 09, Sad.

  • You really belive that crap. I have been enjoying my Xobx for the last 2 years without issue and will be enjoying it for another two years. I have played some great games and I will stand in line for the next Xbox 2, 3 or 4.
