Google Scientists Develop New Way To Rank Images

Washington (dbTechno) – A pair of Google scientists has apparently presented a paper which details how to PageRank images in an image search. This would completely change how images are searched for on Google, making the more like the way in which actually web pages are ranked.

The New York Times reported the paper presented by the two scientists.

The paper, “PageRank for Product Image Search” was presented at the International World Wide Web Conference in Bejing.

The technology is called VisualRank. It works by actually recognizing images and uses technology to give the images weights, ranking them properly.

Currently Google’s image search engine works on only text associated with each image.

This new method would actually identify the image itself, matching it for more accurate results.

This will be similar to how PageRank works on Google.
