Google Co-Founder Makes Plea To FCC For White Space

Boston (dbTechno) – Google co-founder Larry Page has made a plea to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in regards to approving the use of the currently free and unlicensed spectrum white space.

The white space spectrum is between television channels, and to this point has gone virtually unused.

Larry Page stated that if the spectrum would become available for use, it would be beneficial to all including companies and consumers.

The Google co-founder believes this could allow for high speed mobile access and would not interfere at all with any TV broadcasters.

The FCC has been conducting tests with white space to see if it would interfere with TV broadcasts.

Studies have found that some interference as of right now may occur, which has prompted many broadcasters to go against Page and his proposal.

The spectrum could be used in 2009 though once analog television turns into digital television.

TV broadcasters do not agree with this though, stating that all tests have shown that it interferes, and the problem has yet to be resolved.
