GameStop Pulls The Plug On Zune Support
May 26, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - GameStop has come out and announced that they will no longer be a supporter and carrier of the Microsoft Zune media player, their answer to the Apple iPod.
GameStop made the announcement this week that they would be pulling the Zune from their store shelves.
The reason for them pulling the Zune is simply because of poor consumer demand.
GameStop put out a statement saying “We have decided to exit the Zune category because it just did not have the appeal we had anticipated.”
This hurts Microsoft as they try to expand the user base of the Zune media player.
Zune support will last in GameStop until all stock is gone. Microsoft has sold 2 million units of the Zune since it launched in November 2006, earning a 4% market share and still way behind the iPod.
