Supernatural The Complete Third Season
Blu-ray Review
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment
Released: November 11, 2008
Supernatural is a very popular show among its fans on the CW network, and has managed to enjoy a great deal of success through its first two seasons. Now, the third season of the hit show has hit the Blu-ray format courtesy of Warner Bros.
The second season of Supernatural left fans eager for more with the way it ended, and so many storylines still developing.
The third season came with many of the same characters back again, but unfortunately things had to get cut short due to the writers’ strike.
Still, the third season still managed to be wildly entertaining and did not let fans down one bit. The same cast with Jim Beaver, Lauren Cohan, Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and others are back once again and all put on great performances.
One thing that continues to amaze me though is the high level of effects that the show has as they are almost the same level of effects you would see in a major Hollywood blockbuster.
Another strong season for Supernatural that leaves you ready for more from the hit series.
The series has received a nice video transfer on the Blu-ray format being presented in 1080p in 1.78:1 aspect ratio.
The transfers look absolutely beautiful with some amazing colors, clarity, black levels, etc. Some of the colors have a great deal of pop. Overall, this is a huge step up from what you see on television, great stuff!
The audio is presented in a Dolby Digital 5.1 track and does a great job of setting an atmosphere for each and every episode by using the front and rear channels in an effective manner. Crystal clear audio with great dialogue and sound effects.
There are some great extras here for fans to enjoy, starting off with the fact that you get a digital copy of every single one of the Season 3 episodes, which is a nice plus!
On top of that, there are also many other more standard extras such as featurettes with commentary on some of the episodes.
There is also a 16-minute featurette known as Ghostfacers’ Confessionals, as well as a 23-minute From Legends to Reality Supernatural Effects focusing on the special effects and such.
The final additions include a short feature on the famous 1967 Chevy Impala the cast uses, as well as a gag reel.
Supernatural The Complete Third Season on Blu-ray is well-worth your money with some great content, a fantastic audio/video transfer, and some fun extras. Highly-recommended!
Film: 8.5 Another fantastic season of the series, the only flaw was that it was cut short due to the writers’ strike.
Video: 9.2 Nothing to complain about, looks perfect on Blu-ray.
Audio: 9.0 The sound effects and dialogue are crystal clear.
Extras: 9.0 The digital copies of episodes, as well as all of the rest of the extras are well-worth the price!
Final Score: 9.0
