Who The Tudor Are You? – Tudors Site

Showtime’s The Tudors continues with the complete second season being released on the DVD format courtesy of Paramount Home Entertainment.

The Tudors follows the life and reign of England’s Henry VIII and combines quite a bit of fact with a bit of fiction thrown in as well to keep things very interesting throughout.

The second season of The Tudors picks up with Henry, played once again by Jonathan Rhys Meyers, getting heavily involved with Anne Boleyn (Natalie Dormer).

Henry has one thing in mind here, to drop his first wife Katherine and to marry Anne so that he can have a boy to take over once his reign is done.

The season plays out as Henry makes himself the leader of the church, giving himself the power to get rid of his first wife and marry Anne.  Needless to say, it is pretty remarkable to watch how Henry pulls all of this off, making Anne the new Queen of England.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers does a fantastic job in the role as the king, and looks the part to say the least.  The show is filled with plenty of drama, as well as a lot of tense moments and excitement, with the second season picking right up where the first left off and running with the crown.

The video quality for the transfer is presented in 1.78:1 widescreen and comes across with great clarity as the scenery and such here looks fantastic on the DVD format.  The colors are well-done and there are no blemishes in the transfer at all.

The audio is presented in a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix and is quite good, with the music doing a great job of using the surround channels.

As for the extras, you get some pretty solid stuff here starting out with a featurette called The Tower of London, looking into the character Natalie Dormer played, Anne.

From here, you get interviews with descendants of Henry himself, as well as two premiere episodes.  These include Californication Season 2 as well as The American Life Season 2.

A photo gallery and text biographies of the actors are included as well.

Overall, the second season of The Tudors does a great job of continuing the story of Henry on the DVD format as you get to take this home with all of its drama and history packaged together.  If you enjoyed the first season, there is plenty of fun to be had here.

Episodes: 8.2 The whole way in which the show is set-up is really well-done, a great cast and fun stories.

Video: 8.0 A strong transfer, no blemishes at all.

Audio: 8.4 Better than the video transfer with great use of the surround channels.

Extras: 7.8 Some unique stuff, but a pretty slim package overall.

Final Score: 7.5
