FCC Chairman Does Not Want To Delay Digital TV Switch

Boston (dbTechno) – The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chairman Kevin Martin has made it clear that he does not want to delay the switch from analog to digital TV.

As of right now, it is planned to make the switch from analog to digital TV as of February 17, 2009.

Recently though there has been a push from consumer groups, as well as President-elect Barack Obama, to delay the switch.

The reason for this is due to the fact that the program to supply consumers with a coupon to buy a digital converter box has run dry.

There are many people on the waiting list to receive one of these converter box coupons so they are ready for digital TV.

One of the biggest issues is the fact that many of the coupons received are now past their 90-day expiration date.

Congress will have to act quickly on what to do, but it is clear where Martin stands.

At CES 2009, the FCC chairman Kevin Martin made it clear that he thinks delaying the switch would cause problems for everyone, and create a great deal of confusion.

It is expected that he will be replaced as FCC chairman once President-elect Obama takes office.
