President Obama Expected To Sign Delay Of Digital TV Switch

Congress voted on Wednesday to delay the switch from analog to digital TV until June 12th.<br /> ....Boston (dbTechno) – Congress voted on Wednesday to delay the switch from analog to digital TV until June 12th.

The deadline to switch from analog to digital TV was originally set to take place on February 17, 2009.

This is no longer going to happen though as the new deadline is now set to June 12th.

This gives television stations and consumers more time to get ready for the switch to the new digital format.

President Barack Obama is the last person standing in front of the delay as he has the option as to whether or not he wants to sign the delay bill.

It is believed, due to his past support, that he will sign the bill to delay the switch by four months.

Broadcasters will keep the option though to switch to digital TV sooner if they wish.

The reason for the delay is due to the fact that it was feared that millions of Americans are not ready for the switch.

A program to issue coupons to consumers to buy a digital TV converter box has run out of money, leaving many on a waiting list to get one.

Once the switch from analog to digital TV is complete, the spectrum is going to be used for new wireless broadband services.
