If you are a baseball fan, at some point in your life you probably have stated that you think you could do a good job as a GM.  Well, 2K Sports wants to give you that chance on the Xbox 360 with MLB Front Office Manager.

The idea behind MLB Front Office Manager is to allow players to take on the role of being the GM of a baseball franchise.

This is not your typical baseball game, there are no on-field experiences here to partake in, instead it is all behind-the-scenes stuff.  You will be working to make trades, set up your minor-league system, and everything else that goes along with it.

This is like the NFL Head Coach for baseball fans, only that it tries to go even deeper.

On the surface, this sounded like an absolutely tremendous idea.  I have to admit that I immediately had dreams of bringing Manny Ramirez back to the Red Sox, signing key players away from the Yankees, and all of that funs tuff.

Unfortunately though, all of that went right out the window when the game actually kicked off, as it was far more bland that I believed it would be.

One of the biggest reasons for this is due to the menu system and the way in which everything was set up.  You will find yourself jumping from menu to menu trying to see if players accepted contracts, agreed to trades, etc.  There are few prompts here which help you jump from one thing to another with ease.

Instead, it is up to you to muddle your way through this mess of a menu system, as the game is just not that easy to navigate.

As stated, the whole premise here is really fantastic, it is just the execution that is really lacking.

This even goes for the way in which you can get down to the field to play in the role of the manager.  The idea is there, but the execution is lacking as you really can’t make key decisions like you will want to.  There is also no presentation of the baseball experience itself on a next-gen level unfortunately.

The developer did try to do some cool things with online fantasy leagues and such, but the set-up is just not enjoyable enough to really make this one warrant a purchase.

If you are an absolute fanatic in terms of following every little baseball stat and such, rent this one.  This is too much of a mess though unfortunately to warrant a purchase.  Instead, we’ll have to wait for the real MLB 2K9 from 2K Sports.

Graphics: 4.0 The menus are not even that good looking, very bland.

Audio: 3.0 Nothing here, just some mediocre tunes.

Gameplay: 5.0
The premise is great, but the execution is severely lacking.

Replay Value: 6.0
If you can get into it, there is a lot to explore.

Final Score: 5.0
