World Wrestling Entertainment has made a great move with the release of WWE Summerslam The Complete Anthology into separate volumes for fans to choose.

We were lucky enough to be able to check out both volume 1 and volume 2 for the purpose of this review, and were completely floored with the two separate sets.

As a wrestling fan, the release of the entire WWE Summerslam box set really intrigued me, but the price tag was a bit too much for me considering I really only wanted the older pay-per-views.

WWE Home Video has listened to the fans it seems with these releases, as volume 1 and 2 are both priced right, you can get both together for well under $100, and feature some classic wrestling.

In the first volume, you get a five-disc set which has WWE Summerslam 1988 up through 1992, while the second volume covers 1993-1997.

These shows are a lot of fun to go back and watch and are a great addition to the collection of anyone’s wrestling library on DVD.

Some of the more notable matches that immediately come to mind include the match between Bret Hart and Mr. Perfect back in Summerslam 1991, as well as  the 3-on-2 handicap match against Hulk Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior.

Other classic include moments with The Hart Foundation, Rick Rude, Earthquake, and many more.

The list goes on and one here with the amount of matches and content loaded onto these two five-disc sets, making them hands-down a must buy.

These two volumes, in my opinion, should cover you right up before the Attitude era in the WWE kicked into gear, showing some great history with some legendary performers.  For the price they are set at, these are well worth picking up if you cannot justify the big price tag of the entire box set.

Content: 8.9 The pay-per-views here are phenomenal, great wrestling history over the two 5-disc sets.

Video: 7.8 Some of the older PPVs do not look so great, but they have been cleaned up nicely.

Audio: 7.5 About as good as you can expect considering the age of some of the source material.

Extras: N/A
The entire release is basically a collection of content, so to grade extras is really not fair in this particular case.

Final Score: 8.4
