Fletch
Blu-ray Review
Universal Studios Home Entertainment
Release: June 2, 2009
Fletch, a movie starring Chevy Chase and based on the novel by Gregory McDonald, has and still is seen as a highly-popular comedy.
The movie stars a character known as Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher, or Fletch for short, and showcases Chevy Chase in his most notable role beyond the Vacation movies.
The film features this Fletch character who starts out as a newspaper reporter looking for a big story. Needless to say, he ends up finding one, but it could cost him his life by the time he is finished writing it.
The way in which this whole film plays out, with a mix of comedy and thrilling moments, will be enough to have anyone laughing their tail off, a great film!
The film is presented in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio and looks respectable in the release. The film is pretty old, over 20 years old to be exact, so don’t expect anything too spectacular as there is some grain, and colors are not as vibrant as they could be. Overall though not half-bad.
The audio is presented in a DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio mix, and is better than the video transfer in that the dialogue is crystal clear. Unfortunately, the film is a bit too front-heavy to stand out.
As for the extras, things start out with a featurette named Just Charge it to the Underhills: Making and Remembering Fletch. This is a very funny feature which has plenty of interviews from all of the cast besides Chevy Chase himself.
Next up is a look at the various disguises Fletch wears in the film, running for around 5-minutes on his own.
Extras are rounded out by a 3-minute feature known as Favorite Fletch Moments, the trailer, and some BD-Live stuff which was not available as of review time.
Fletch gets a fair representation on the Blu-ray format with some decent extras and a strong Blu-ray transfer. For fans of Chevy Chase, well-worth picking up.
Film: 9.0 Up there as one of the best films of Chase’s career, hands-down. Very funny.
Video: 7.8 The video transfer is nothing to write home about, decent.
Audio: 8.0 Dialogue is crystal clear, too front-heavy though.
Extras: 7.5 Couple of decent extras, more Blu-ray exclusives though please.
Final Score: 8.0
