I had some high hopes for Revolutionary Road, which reunites Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet for the first time in a drama since the hit Titanic.  With that said, I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed in the result.

Revolutionary Road is a story which showcases an amazing level of character drama, without going over-the-top with anything beyond just that, the characters.

The two do a great job in their roles, as expected as these are two of the best that Hollywood has to offer in my honest opinion.

For me though, there just seemed to be something missing in a few spots with the story that kept this from being the masterpiece that so many praised it to be.

There is clearly a lot of emotions running rampant with the characters, as they try their best to save their marriage amidst being unhappily together with kids, engrossed in affairs, etc.

Is Revolutionary Road a masterpiece, no, not at all.  It is though one heck of an emotional ride that fans of these two will thoroughly enjoy.

The video quality for the DVD release of the film is top-notch, with an amazing level of clarity being given, along with nice flesh-tones to add realism to the transfer.

Audio does a good job of trying to use the rear channels when necessary, even though the film is pretty much all dialogue-driven.

As for the extras, there is unfortunately not a whole lot here to fall in love with.  There are a few highlights though in the minimal extras.

These extras include a decent making-of track, as well as deleted scenes with optional commentary by director Sam Mendes and screenwriter Justin Haythe.

The extras are rounded out with a great commentary track by Mendes and Haythe, definitely the highlight.

Revolutionary Road on DVD is a good choice if you are in the mood for a strong drama that focuses on characters more than anything else.  Worth your while as a rental for sure.

Film: 8.0 A very strong drama starring two of Hollywood’s best.

Video: 9.0 A very solid transfer with great flesh-tones.

Audio: 8.5 Front-heavy, but crystal clear throughout.

Extras: 7.5 Only 3 extras, but they are pretty good in their own right.

Final Score: 8.0
