Release: June 23, 2009

Paramount Home Entertainment has put out Friday the 13th Part 3 3-D on the Blu-ray format, hoping to scare you half to death with the included 3-D glasses.

Friday the 13th Part 3 is an interesting release as you get both the 2-D and 3-D versions of the film here, complete with 2 pairs of 3-D glasses.

The film was originally shot in 3-D, and has plenty of 3-D effects to say the very least. Does this translate into a fantastic film, definitely not, but it is still very entertaining.

Jason is back again around Crystal Lake, Camp Blood, whatever you want to call it. He once again is going after a group of teenagers to shed as much blood as possible.

Once the film opens, the 3-D effects come flying at you, as the murders and such are actually pretty entertaining.

Overall though, this is still more of a copycat of the original than anything else, just in 3-D.

Video quality for the Blu-ray release is very strong, and the 3-D elements transfer over well to the Blu-ray format, especially considering the age of the source material.

Audio was a bit too front-heavy for my liking, but overall the sound effects were crisp and clear enough to warrant a pass.

There are some decent extras on this release starting out with the included pairs of 3-D glasses.

From here, there are also other featurettes such as Legacy of the Mask, and Fresh Cuts 3-D Terror looking at the 3-D elements of the film.

Extras are rounded out by part 3 of Lost Tales from Camp Blood, and Slasher Films Going for the Jugular.

All of the extras are presented in full HD, and have some very entertaining elements to them which fans should appreciate.

Friday the 13th Part 3 3-D is more of a copycat than anything else, but the 3-D glasses give it enough of a unique vibe to it to make it worth a popcorn session.

Film: 7.0 A decent horror film, the 3-D is corny but very entertaining..

Video: 8.5 Video transfer is very strong.

Audio: 8.0 The audio mix is crisp and clear throughout, presented in a TrueHD track.

Extras: 7.0 The extras are entertaining, would have liked more Blu-ray-geared stuff though such as PiP and BD-Live..

Final Score: 7.8
